New Quay is a picturesque seaside town set on a steep hill running down to a stone harbour (see photo 1). We go there for its excellent golden sandy beaches and convenient facilities. New Quay is about 25 miles south of Aberystwyth. Click here for a map of New Quay. See this sites map page for details on printing the map. On the map:
Tourist InformationThe Tourist Information Centre is at the bottom of Church Street by the sea (phone: 01545 560865). For general information on the town and area see the following websites: Information last reviewed: 11th/7/06.
ParkingThere are three main car parks in New Quay:
Note that Hill Street and Park Street are a main road and that they lack pathways. Information last reviewed: 11th/7/06. PlaygroundsThe small playground is at the back of the car park where Church Road joins Hill Street. Follow the lane running from the car park down the side of the doctors surgery. The one in the harbour itself (see photos 2 and 3) is our favourite as it is so convenient for the cafes, toilets etc. We have used the shelter offered by the harbour to enjoy the beach even on mild winter days. Shops and EatingThe shopping in New Quay is very limited. By the harbour you will find tourist shops, cafes (we normally eat in The Mariners Restaurant), Annies Grocers and a NatWest. There is a Costcutter where Glanmor Terrace joins Park Street. Information last reviewed: 11th/7/06. Toilets

You can choose from cups, plates, a variety of models, tiles etc. They will glaze and fire it for you, but it can take a week. If you can't return to pick it up they can post it to you. If you want to take your work away on the day you can paint using acrylics. I took my eldest daughter there when she was six and we both spent an hour and a half having tremendous fun painting presents for ourselves and relations. The pottery is off the A487 just the Aberaeron side of Llanarth on a small side road for Oakford and Mydroilyn. For more information telephone 01545 580584. Information last reviewed: 11th/7/06. New Quay Honey FarmMy daughter was three when we visited the exhibition at the farm. There are a series of spectacular living wild bee colonies to look at as well a fascinating leaf ant colony (we spent ages looking at this). My daughter enjoyed the video and then drew a beautiful bee with the crayons and paper at the little drawing table. My other daughter at five spent ages dressing-up in the bee keeper's costumes and playing at smoking the bees and extracting the honey. The food in the tea rooms is very high quality but you might struggle to find a meal a very small child will eat. There is however a charming picnic area outside. The farm is down a side lane off the A486 about 3 miles from New Quay. See the farm's website or phone 01545 560822 for more details. Information last reviewed: 9th/9/06.
